M.S. Technology Commercialization & Entrepreneurship, RPI. I find where humans are doing work that software should be doing — and build the thing that fixes it.

Bailey Ryan

I studied Technology Commercialization & Entrepreneurship at RPI because I was drawn to a specific problem: good ideas fail not from lack of innovation, but from poor translation into something real and usable. That's been the throughline of everything I've done since. At work, I've built tools that sales and ops teams actually use — automating the manual, surfacing the invisible, cutting the friction. Outside of it, that same instinct led me to build the operations tool that runs my Dad's construction company, Rygrove — replacing a mess of notes and texts with something his field crews use every day. Whether the problem is at a company or in a family business, the work is the same: listen, figure out what's broken, and ship something that works.

I started working for my dad's construction company carrying sheetrock in 2014. College and a career took me elsewhere — but I never fully left. Now I contribute a different way: I built the software that runs the business. A production web app used daily by field crews for hour tracking, invoice generation, expense tracking, and project planning — replacing a mess of notes, texts, and spreadsheets. Saves roughly 260 hours a year in after-hours admin. Designed and shipped end-to-end.

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI)
Won the Class of 1951 Student Entrepreneurship Award and placed tied 3rd in the Severino Center for Technological Entrepreneurship spring competition with Vewr, a two-sided marketplace. RPI drew me in because of the people who ran the NSF grant that first changed my trajectory — I wanted to be around that energy.

Where I fell in love with starting things. Blackstone LaunchPad gave me my first real taste of entrepreneurship. Received a National Science Foundation I-SITE ICOR grant to develop a startup — which led me directly to RPI.
